TULIA - Funeral services for Wayne E. Blount, 80, will be at 4 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tommy Ewing, associate pastor, officiating.
Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home.

Mr. Blount died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Floyd County. He grew up in Floyd and Hale counties, moving to Tulia in 1938.

He was a lifelong farmer.
He married Norma Lou Poff on Feb. 7, 1949, in Clovis, N.M. She died April 4, 1991.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Susie Bradley of Austin; a sister, Dorothy Jean Wright of Stratford; one brother, Buster Blount of Plainview; and two grandsons, Blaine Blount of Hamshire and Wesley Blount of Beaumont.

A son, David Blount, is deceased.

Funeral services for Lyndon Keith Byrd, 43, of Lubbock, were at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church of Plainview with the Rev. Jim McCartney, pastor of St. Alice Catholic Church, and the Rev. Cecil Foster officiating.
Burial was in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home of Plainview.

Mr. Byrd died at 8:42 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002, in Lubbock.
He was born Oct. 30, 1958, in Plainview and graduated from Kress High School in 1977. He was active in all sports, was a member of the Future Farmers of America and showed livestock in area and state stock shows. He was a member of the Happy High School Rodeo Team and continued to rodeo several years after high school.

He attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University.
He was a builder and contractor and was associated with Bravo Enterprises of Plainview, Patch Management of Lubbock and, recently, his own business, LB Construction.

He coached his daughter in Lubbock Girls Basketball and his son in Monterey Optimist basketball where they both reached the finals several times.
Survivors include a daughter, Leah Nicole Byrd, a son, Kody Keith Byrd, and their mother, Kari Lynn Byrd, all of Lubbock; his mother, Marie Weil Byrd of Lubbock; his father, Clarence R. Byrd of Plainview; two sisters, Dianne Hale and her husband, Chris, of Houston and Cindy Reed and her husband, Joe, of Kress; a half sister, Misty Dorman and husband, Stacey, of Lubbock; one nephew, Ryan Reed, of College Station; two nieces, Amanada Rae Reed of Lubbock and Lyndsey Marie Hale of Fort Worth; his stepmother, Totsy Byrd; a stepsister, Debra Parker, and stepbrother, Ricky Criswell, all of Plainview; his godparents, Edward and Doris Weil of Hale Center; and in-laws Wendell and Pat Blankenship of Plainview.

Pallbearers were Greg Blankenship, Johnny Rich, Jackie Scott, Greg Foster, Jeff Rogers, Mike Snodgrass, Scott Harbour and Mike Fergason.
The family suggest memorials to the Scleroderma Foundation or a favorite charity.

Florence Montgomery
Funeral services for Florence Montgomery, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Montgomery died at 2:46 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Covenant Hospital Plainview.

She was born June 5, 1917, in Lakeview, was raised in that community and attended schools in Floydada. She graduated from West Texas State University and also received her master´s degree there.
She taught in Glazier, Eastland, Bovina, Shallowater, Panhandle and Plainview and was a member of First Baptist Church.

She married Floyd Montgomery on June 11, 1944, in Canyon. He died April 24, 1997. For a number of years, they conducted weekly church services at several nursing homes, including Care Inn where she had been a resident for several years.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was born May 25, 1925, in Edinburg. She married Henry Rodriguez. He died Aug. 13, 1994. She was a lifelong resident of Floydada and a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Raul Rodriguez and Jose Rodriguez, both of Plainview; two daughters, Virginia Villarreal of Memphis and Pauline Rodriguez of Washington; three brothers; one sister; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Funeral services Mayme Juel Jackson Slaughter, 80, formerly of Plainview, will be Wednesday at Peek Family Funeral Home in Westminster, Calif., with internment at Westminster Memorial Park.
Mrs. Slaughter died at her home on Saturday, March 9, 2000.

She was born in Chillicothe in Hardeman County on Jan. 31, 1922, and was raised in Plainview.
Mrs. Slaughter was a 1941 graduate of Plainview High School. She married Millard Slaughter in 1941 and they moved to Southern California in 1947 and resided in Huntington Beach for 40 years until her recent move to Chandler, Ariz. He died in 1962.

Surviving are two daughters, Fran McClung and Janice Alvilez and her husband Charles; a son, Bill Slaughter and his wife Kay; two sisters, Minnie Faye George and Joyce Harrison; two brothers, Wayne Jackson and Wiley Jackson, and six grandchildren.

A memorial service for Barbara Thomas, 65, of Plainview, will be announced at a later date.

She died at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002, at her residence.

Ms. Thomas was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Lansing, Mich., where she grew up and attended schools. She moved to California in 1958 where she owned and operated a grocery store. In 1963 she moved to San Antonio and had worked as a computer technician.
She moved to Plainview in 1998 and had worked at Prairie House Living Center as program manager, and at Seasons Way Tea Room.

Survivors include a sister, Janey Kuelhem of Las Vegas, Nev.; and four brothers, James DeVaney of Panama City, Panama, Ian De Vaney, Michael De Vaney and Rick DeVaney, all of Las Vegas.
